ROME SHOPPING GUIDE: WHERE THE ITALIAN FASHION HERITAGE BORN.

The eternal city is the heart of Italy's culture and architecture, but one thing that many people tend to forget is that Rome is also the city where the greatest Made In Italy brands were born. Many of the most important high fashion Maisons such as Fendi, Valentino and Bulgari were born here. Workshops whose work was appreciated all over the world, only to be supplanted by the arrival of the prêt-à-porter that shifted the creative poles of fashion to other cities.

But also many of the greatest professionals among designers and tailors have chosen to train at the best schools in the capital, stealing secrets from the marvelous city and allowing themselves to be inspired by its wonders: Maria Grazia Chiuri (creative director for Dior) , Pierpaolo Piccioli (defined by some as Valentino's heir), Alessandro Michele (creative director for Gucci), Gianbattista Valli (Roman doc) and Frida Giannini, just to name a few.

To shopping, the famous "Tridente" which includes Via Condotti, Via Borgognona and Via Frattina is definitely not to be missed: winding its way from Piazza di Spagna, the Trident is known for hosting the most luxurious clothing brands but also jewelers, such as Bulgari, Hermes, Tiffany, Versace or even the famous multi-brand store Gente Roma, a reference point for enthusiasts.

In the various traverses of the Tridente, there are also Céline, Ferragamo, Brioni, Brooks Brothers, Louis Vuitton, Montblanc, Falconeri. If it is considered a fixed stop for tourists, the Trident is avoided by locals who prefer less crowded and chaotic places.

Remaining in the heart of the city, we find Via del Corso: more than a kilometer of shops, not only luxury but shops suitable for any type of pocket. It is one of the most famous commercial streets that extends from Piazza Venezia to Piazza del Popolo, it is highly recommended to reach it by public transport. At the center of the street take place Galleria Alberto Sordi, a shopping center with brands of all kinds.

The shopping streets in the city are a real institution, suitable for spending a day in the most different shops: from luxury to fast fashion chains, from the center to the suburbs you can go shopping even if you don't have a typical Vespa, Audrey Hepburn's favorite mover in the movie "Roman Holiday".

Moving a few kilometers further north, towards Villa Ada and Villa Borghese, there are also luxury multi-brand stores, including Gibot, Blue Marlin & Co. and Bagheera Boutique where you can find unmissable highlights of the most contemporary brands. Instead, if you are on the other side of the city, you should not miss the Palazzo Della Civiltà Italiana which is also the headquarters of Fendi!

An interesting contrast between old and new is becoming increasingly evident in Rome: not far from Vatican City and Piazza Navona there is Via del Governo Vecchio where it is easy to be fascinated by the historic and elegant shops of the place which are now house for the vintage shops, more interesting and still little known to mass tourism! While just a few steps away there is Piazza Campo de 'Fiori, a contemporary art district that hosts "Contemporary Cluster" and "Daforma", two exhibition spaces for fashion, music and artistic events.

Rome is the eternal city also and thanks above all to art, sculpture and painting as well as fashion, cinema and entertainment that have always paid tribute to it! In particular, fashion is also present on a financial level: Fendi financed the renovation of five fountains in the city, Tod’s participated in the restoration of the Colosseum and Bulgari help in the restoration of the Trinità Dei Monti stairway. The city, location of events and fashion shows, has always received the right treatments to keep entire its immense historical and cultural value.
