NEW YORK SHOPPING GUIDE: GLOBAL SHOPPING CAPITAL

A city that wouldn't even need introductions: New York a name, a guarantee. Immense city in which to get lost among high skyscrapers, narrow streets that are divided between luxurious shop windows and lively and busy areas H24, but also hidden and refined alleys that most of the time hide precious spots not to be missed. It is a city that offers everything, literally: there is no lack of greenery as there are so many luxurious parks where to take a break and get away from the hustle and bustle of the city, but if you prefer a fresh sea breeze NYC also offers beaches and seaside resorts south of the city. And beyond nature, culture with historic sites of great value, museums and galleries, events throughout the year or sport as a fundamental part of the community or even the nightlife among clubs, restaurants and tourist attractions such as Broadway and, "last but not least" of course, shopping.

Orientation may seem an impossible undertaking, being a real state in itself, as vast as different and varied. In such an abundance of things to see, visit, discover it is advised to study the anatomy of the city well to know where to start the tour and above all to understand its essence.

New York City is made up of five districts, also called "villages" which are: the Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens and Staten Island. While these last two are islands, Brooklyn and Queens are geographically part of Long Island. The Bronx instead, an eclectic "container" of the city of NY, is located further north. Bridges, tunnels and ferries; metros and buses, without forgetting the famous yellow taxis that color the whole city: these are the main means of transport that make traveling easier in this huge metropolis. Each village has hundreds of local and multi-ethnic communities inside; of the "worlds" completely to itself, thanks to which the city assumes a truly exclusive character.

Like any self-respecting city, shopping is an integral part of the tourist visit (and not). That's why we will reveal some of the best "hot spots" not to be missed, with useful suggestions to make your tour in the Big Apple more enjoyable and make it an even more unforgettable experience.

As big as it is, New York is still very compact thanks to its five districts that, among the various main tourist attractions like Times Square, Central Park, the Empire State Building or Yankee Stadium, are home to any type of shop and boutique. From unbridled luxury to vintage through crafts, fashion, technology, furniture, art, culture and food, the possibilities that make New York the Global shopping capital are truly endless.

Speaking of real fashion, how can you not name the series par excellence that made the main NY boutiques famous? Yes, we are talking about Sex and The City and all the shops we fell in love with after shopping for Carrie Bradshaw!

And it is from the magical Fifth Avenue, where the windows alone are worth the walk, that we decide to start with the tour. It extends north of Washington Square Park in Greenwich Village to Harlem's West 143rd Street and is considered one of the most expensive and elegant streets in the world. Along this way, here are the boutiques of those boutiques that today are real institutions in the luxury scene: Bergdorf Goodman and Saks, which house all the great imaginary and imaginative luxury brands: from the classic Dior, Chanel, Prada, to avant-garde names like Comme Des Garçons and Rick Owens, without forgetting contemporary brands. The latter is also offered by Intermix, a noteworthy boutique on 5th Ave, where you can also find emerging brands.

An area with high risk for your current account is surely the Upper East Side, also on 5th Ave in the center of Manhattan, where the most luxurious single-brand boutiques like Celine, Missoni, Lanvin, Dolce & Gabbana, Alexander McQueen, Tom Ford, Ralph Lauren are located.

In Midtown Manhattan instead, the shop windows of the most famous jewelers like Tiffany&Co sparkle, made famous by actress Audrey Hepburn in the film "Breakfast at Tiffany's", Bulgari, Cartier, which alternate with big names in the fashion scene such as Chanel, Valentino, Burberry, etc. In short, we do not assume any responsibility for this suggestion!

Once you get to the south instead, here is another neighborhood that is very well known: Broadway, in addition to its famous theaters, enjoys the best fashion stores dedicated to a younger target and therefore with much more affordable prices. From the West Coast to Lower Manhattan (the famous Soho district), luxury boutiques such as Balmain, Moschino, Alexander Wang, but also fast-fashion chains like Topshop, American Apparel, Urban Outfitters and department stores like Bloomingdales in where you can buy brands like Alice and Olivia, 7 For All Mankind, Zadig & Voltaire. Other boutiques recommended on Broadway are Anthropologie with its brands signed by young designers and finally, the headquarters of the Italian 10 Corso Como.

Beyond the bridge, in the Brooklyn district, there are rumors of the true essence of the city, the most concrete and "alive". So if you're not a "glam addicted", it's definitely the side of the city that's right for you! Here, it is possible to find craft and vintage shops rather than megastores of costumes, accessories and objects and there is indeed something for all tastes: oversize, genderless, drag and much more! The area is also the best on the culinary side, here, in fact, there are sought locations with kitchens from any culture. Even here, however, there is no lack of shopping of a certain level: Bird and Article& are just two of the many boutiques that we recommend to visit for particular garments that are not very mainstream.

But beyond the subdivision by quarters, what makes NYC famous are above all the Department Stores that literally sprout up all over the territory of the various counties. Beyond the aforementioned, other important names are Century 21, Macy's, Time Warner Center, Manhattan Mall, Newport Center and last but not least, but by birth, the futuristic Hudson Yard, which contains not only shops but also offices and newsrooms.

In short, to conclude, every corner of New York is perfect for shopping, so get your wallet and prepare comfortable shoes because it is a real challenge to temptations!
