The city of Bergamo is located in the center of Lombardy, in the heart of Northern Italy: from here it is easy to move to reach centers such as Milan, Brescia and Venice as well as the lakes of Iseo, Garda and Como. The city is famous thanks to the Orio al Serio International Airport "Il Caravaggio" which is only 5km from the railway station. At the foot of the Orobie Prealps, which stands between the Brembo and Serio valleys, the area is a popular destination for trekking lovers.
Bergamo is one of the most important art cities of Lombardy and is known mainly for its characteristic of having two cities in one: it is divided into the Città Alta, which is the ancient and more historic part, and Città Bassa that is the new development urban and commercial.
The panoramic view of the Città Alta is very intense because the ancient rocky walls and the old buildings are perfectly silhouetted and balanced with the nature that surrounds them. A city to discover on foot or by funicular, among towers, hidden courtyards, arcades that hide precious artisan shops, especially in Via Colleoni, and unexpected views. With its medieval atmosphere guarded by the narrow cobbled streets, the ancient Roman remains, the Renaissance churches and the eighteenth-century palaces with the famous Piazza Vecchia in the middle, the center is also shopping, entertainment, festivals and delicious culinary breaks.
However, in Città Bassa, you will find the most equipped shopping streets. The most modern and economically developed urban center has many well-known shopping streets, be it luxury or for all budgets. The main one is certainly Via XX Settembre, which hosts all kinds of mono-brand boutiques: from Max Mara and Trussardi, Boggi to Subdued, Mango and other fast-fashion. In the direction of the Città Alta, on Via Sant’Alessandro, many other boutiques surrounded by bars, restaurants and shops where you can taste typical dishes.
Another area full of unmissable boutiques is Via Zambonate: here we find the headquarters of the famous multi-brand Amedeo D., absolute reference point for the new street and urban wear trends, which since 2014 has been in collaboration with Coin, the excellence of the Italian department stores and which in fact is located a few steps away in the same street.
In addition to shopping, culture, history and breathtaking landscapes, Bergamo offers excellent pastry shops and delis. The city is renowned for the desserts and delicacies of the patisseries, to try for example the proposals of Tresoldi and Mimi- La Casa Dei Sapori, in via Colleoni of the Città Alta.
