Veja: the vegan style interpreted in sneaker
Veja is a brand of sustainable sneakers for women, men and children. Each model by Veja is different in style, colors and design. At the same, however, in each shoe recurs the distinctive features of the brand that characterize and enhances the brand in the vast sneakers world: the logo sewn on both sides of the shoes and the name embroidered on the heel tab.
In Veja shoes, design and social responsibility come together in a single goal. A plan aimed not only at representing the current generation, but also at crystallizing the major problems caused by globalization. Veja sneakers are vegan, eco-friendly and made with innovative materials and recycled; laces made with organic cotton from Brazil, soles created from rubber from the Amazon, finishing off the rest of the sneakers with recycled plastic and polyester materials. The brand’s commitment is not limited only to the quality and origin of the product used, but also to the protection of the places where the materials originate and the protection of working conditions and the quality of life of its workers. A remarkable project of great ecological, ethical and social, in fact, the purpose of Veja’s design study is simple, that is, to create a product that challenges the course of time thus discouraging the compulsive purchase of consumers.
In 2004, two friends and sneakerheads, Sébastien Kopp and François-Ghislain Morillion, founded the brand Veja in Paris. The duo, who had already worked together on sustainability projects, decided to demonstrate to the whole world that innovative design, fair trade and ecology can coexist in unison. Thus was born Veja, which in Portuguese means “gaze”, embodying the project of Koop and Morillon and contributing to demonstration that a more sustainable fashion is achievable, although is not an easy road to take.
