The designer Stuart Weitzman was born in 1941 in New York, the son of a shoe manufacturer, from which he took over the family business with his brother, and then sold it in 1972 to a Spanish company. The two brothers, however, did not stop designing shoes, later managing to buy back the company and continuing to produce in Spain. The brand was founded in 1986 and in 1998 Weitzman opened its online boutique. In 1993 the iconic 5050 boot model was launched, worn by Kate Moss, which mixes stretch fabric and leather or suade. The success of the brand finally sees the light up to get on the red carpet of the Oscars, especially with the creation of the Million Dollar Shoes: the platinum sandal and 64 carats of diamonds, worn by Laura Harring in 2002. In 2013 Stuart Weitzman opened the first boutique in Milan, then closed in 2020 for a change of strategy that sees the focus on the wholesale and digital market. In 2015 the brand was sold to Tapestry, a group that also owns Coach; in 2016 Stuart Weitzman left the role of creative director, while remaining president of the company, leaving the place to Giovanni Morelli, Former accessories manager for Burberry and leather goods man and woman of Loewe, who will remain in charge for only one year.
