Sumptuous dresses, accessories such as jewelry or belts, iconic bags and elegant and timeless shoes are the key points of a couture brand like Dior.
Christian Dior was born in 1905 in Granville, France. After attending the École des Sciences Politiques and opening a small art gallery, he moved to Paris. Here, in 1946, he opened his first atelier, at 30 Avenue Montaigne.
On February 12, 1947 he presented to the press his first collection, called "New Look", bringing to the catwalk silhouettes with unusual lines and revolutionizing the fashion of the time. Dior introduces, indeed, dresses with rounded shoulders, which replace the padded ones; long corolla-shaped skirts twenty centimeters from the ground; the famous bustier called guêpière; refined and expensive fabrics, instead of the cloth used during the war.
He took ten years, from 1947 to 1957, when he died, to create one of the most admired fashion empires, entrusted, over the years, to designers like Yves Saint Laurent, Gianfranco Ferré and John Galliano.
Starting in 2016, the maison is in the hands of Maria Grazia Chiuri and is part of the luxury giant LVMH, with over 200 boutiques in the world, that include haute couture, men's fashion (with Dior Homme) and women, footwear, accessories, perfumes, cosmetics and watches.
