Born as a lifestyle brand in the '80s, Carhartt is now considered an icon of the hip-hop scene, known for its durable products and comfortable clothing, such as jackets, coats, shirts, overalls, shirts and jeans. Among the best-selling garments: the iconic Active Jacket, the heavy hooded jacket in water-repellent fabric. The first garments manufactured by Carhartt, in the early 1900s, included work uniforms and denim overalls for railway and automobile workers. Subsequently, production expanded to offer a more durable workwear with distinctive features, including the use of strong rivets and yarns, high-tech materials and details such as triple seam lines or roomy multifunctional pockets. Carhartt Brown, with a goose-beak-like hue, has become the distinctive colour of workwear worldwide.
Founded in 1889 by Hamilton Carhartt in Detroit, the company is still owned by the Carhartt family. The brand has been a constant success for decades, thanks to an innovative design and exceptional standards of quality, durability and comfort. Part of its popularity certainly lies in its relatively low cost in the United States, and in the numerous collaborations with influential characters of the star system, including rapper Eminem, which have allowed the spread of the brand in the field of streetstyle, while maintaining a key position for workwear.
In 1989 the Carhartt WIP brand (Work In Progress) was created to adapt to the Asian and European public, the main characteristics of the garments produced, with an innovative style, while remaining faithful to the quality and DNA of the brand. Today Carhartt, based in Dearborn, Michigan, has over 5000 employees worldwide.
