While still in her third year at Amsterdam Fashion Institute, meteoric young designer Daniëlle Cathari booked a much-coveted time slot at New York Fashion Week, making her debut on VFiles’ Fall 2017 runway. Drawing upon her love of adidas Originals’ iconic tracksuit, the Dutch designer’s inaugural collection featured a tightly-edited selection of women’s ready-to-wear, all reconstructed from vintage samples of the signature 3-stripe style.
Cathari’s fresh take on the sportswear giant’s archival pieces immediately caught the eye of the brand’s design director, Raffaella Barbey, who invited the emerging designer on board for adidas Originals’ Spring/Summer 2018 capsule. The result is adidas Originals by Daniëlle Cathari, an ongoing collaborative project between both design entities.
Now with access to adidas Originals’ extensive design archive, Cathari continues to reinvent and re-historicize the mark’s most classic silhouettes for the contemporary streetwear crowd. Merging just the right amount of nineties nostalgia with ultra-modern deconstructed cuts, the Kendall Jenner-vetted line of track jackets, lounge pants, crop tops, shorts, and skirts represents an immaculate marriage of both athletic and urban style sensibilities.
